As a result, gold4rs has now launched their gold-selling site on another domain name "gold4fun". It appears that the domain name "gold4rs.com" is still part of the gold-selling company because it uses an indefinite redirect function to direct users to their new site.
The gold4rs company violate any copyright rights by using an rs in their web address? Most likely not. There have been similar issues in the past with wordpress.org, where the company was suing website owners for using the word "wordpress" in their domain names. After court settlements, it was ruled that the word "wp" would be an adequate alternative and would comply with copyright laws.
Similar to that, it's similar to runescape. Jagex could be in trouble if it had to sue some bots and gold-selling companies in court for the "rs" acronym on their website names. The alphabet is not theirs!
However, I was interested whether Jagex has a different strategy to fight real-world trading or botting. Runescape Wiki I hope they have an actual approach... because this won't take them very far.
Gold4RS reports selling between 6 and 8 trillion dollars of gold in runescape each year. That's around 6 million US dollars with current pricing.
