The Old Dominion University Of Virginia

One of the exciting projects that the Curtin Library Makerspace is working on this year is to establish an online makerspace using Minecraft. We have bought a few licenses for Minecraft EDU, and will be investigating the possibilities of using it as an educational space for our library clients. We are also looking into ways to interact with Minecraft by using a Kinect camera or projector, as well as a wall in our library makerspace area.

I'm sure that you've heard of Minecraft - it's the second most played video game. Minecraft is an online game that uses a 3D-generated environment. As a 'sandbox' game, players go wherever they want to go and play whatever they like including creating and building constructions out of cubes with textures. Activities in the game include exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and combat. There are three different modes of gameplay (survival and creative) and a variety of third-party mods that can add more content.

Minecraft EDU is a specialized Minecraft version that is specifically designed for classroom use. It offers numerous enhancements to the game's original features that make it more efficient and suitable for institutions. Minecraft EDU is a free learning and activity worlds. There is also a vibrant community that explores the educational benefits of Minecraft and shares resources. This video will help you understand Minecraft and Minecraft EDU.

There are a few Minecraft-based academic libraries. For example, the Old Dominion University in Virginia has utilized Minecraft to create an imitation library that you can tour. They also created games. There are many amazing Minecraft libraries, as well as exciting projects like HullCraft, a project of the University of Hull. HullCraft.

The Library makerspace has set up a MineCraft EDU account, with 25 licenses, and began making experiments with the creation of a virtual learning space. There is plenty of exciting potential to create modifications, such as creating a quest in which players must navigate the world to complete challenges could provide information literacy education. You can also develop modifications or use an existing API such as Trove's to find and explore library resources within Minecraft. We are also looking at ways to interact with Minecraft using physical gestures, not the keyboard.

We have been working with Jiayi Zhu (a computer science student) through the HIVE's summer intern program. Jiayi has been working on software for the Kinect 2 during the last three months. This software allows users to interact with Minecraft using a variety of gestures, such as walking and jumping and picking up, putting and destroying blocks, and opening the inventory to select and placing items. Ealatorre We're planning to develop this project in conjunction with a group of computer science students throughout the year. We also hope to explore MinecraftEDU learning activities that could be used in conjunction with it. We will soon publish more information about this project.
