Cairngorms recreated in video game Minecraft

The Cairngorms is a landscape recreated in the video game Minecraft to help young people learn how to manage an entire national park.
The virtual world, in which players can create anything with blocks covers all 1,700 square miles (4,402 sq km) of the park, which covers portions of Highland, Moray, Aberdeenshire and Perthshire.
The settlements have been stripped out and members of the Cairngorms Youth Action Team are now being requested to establish new communities.
It's designed to stimulate their thought process about planning choices.
However, it is fair to say that the team is not taking it totally seriously.
Minecraft creates remote islands
Campbell 16, a teenager from Aviemore who is building a hill fort at Cairn Gorm's summit. It is among the highest mountains in the UK.
He explains: "It doesn't get the temperature very well, but it can get the landscape.
"We've seen the corries and hiked up the Cairngorms. Skins The Lairig Ghru's name is very well-known.
It's as real and precise as is possible. The different types of trees will show you where you are and if there are trees.
Ellie Moore, a fellow player, stated that "while we're trying to build things and farm there's constantly a flurry of monsters or enemies that are out at night."
"So, it's been difficult to venture out into this world, as you're constantly battling for survival, but I'd say where you have been so far has been fairly accurate."
Dan Harris worked in his free time to create the park.
He is the planning manager of Cairngorms Park Authority during the day.
He explained that they were "basically dropped on the map at Aviemore and asked to create an area of community or a neighborhood that meets the national park's aims."
"So, things they have to think about is ways to protect and enhance the natural environment, and how they can make sustainable use of resources."
