Blocking on the horizon – Reserving guest rooms in the distant future.
Blocking procedure – Process of reserving a room on a specific day.
cancellation code - A sequential series of alphanumeric combinations that provide the guest with a reference for a cancellation of a guaranteed reservation.
confirmed reservation - Written statement from a carrier, hotel, rental firm, etc., that it has received the reservation request and will honor it. It may either be a guaranteed or non-guaranteed confirmation. While oral confirmations are virtually worthless, written or emailed confirmations too have stated or implied limitations (such as the period of reservation and how late the person can arrive).
corporate client - A corporate client is a client who represents a company or a corporation. If they do business with you then they are not doing business as private citizens, rather, they are representing the business they work for or are affiliated to.
current guest - Guest who are registered in the hotel
Daily blocking – assigning guests to their particular rooms on a daily basis.
Database interfaces – the sharing of information among computers.
Forecasting - is the process of making predictions of the future based on past and present data and analysis of trends. A commonplace example might be estimation of some variable of interest at some specified future date. Prediction is a similar, but more general term. Both might refer to formal statistical methods employing time series, cross-sectional or longitudinal data, or alternatively to less formal judgmental methods. Usage can differ between areas of application: for example, in hydrology, the terms "forecast" and "forecasting" are sometimes reserved for estimates of values at certain specific future times, while the term "prediction" is used for more general estimates, such as the number of times floods will occur over a long period.

franchise - For the franchiser, the franchise is an alternative to building "chain stores" to distribute goods that avoids the investments and liability of a chain. The franchisor's success depends on the success of the franchisees.

guaranteed reservations
Hotel reservation that is in effect until check-out time of the day following the stated day of arrival of the guest. In guaranteed reservations, payments must be made even if the guest fails to arrive, except where cancellation procedures of the hotel allow an escape.
hotel broker
Hotel consolidator (also called a hotel broker or discounter) is a travel company or business that buys up blocks of hotel rooms in top destinations and then resells them at discounted rates to the final customer.
hotel representative
A company serving the travel agent channel that serves as the booking contact for a hotel or group of hotels.
Housecount
The number of persons registered in a hotel on a specific night.

a system of one member-property recommending another member-property to a guest, and national advertising.
Leisure travelers – People who travel alone or with others on their own for visits to points of interest, to relatives, or for other personal reasons.
No-show factor – Percentage of guests with confirmed or guaranteed reservations who do not show up.
Stayovers – currently registered guest who wish to extend their stay beyond the time for which they made reservations.
Understays – Guest who arrive on time but decide to leave before their predicted date of departure.
Walk in guest – Guest who request a room rental without having made a reservation.
Outsourcing – Provision of service to the hotel, for example; a central reservation system by an agency outside of the hotel.
OCF -Occupancy is the percentage of time that call agents actually spend handling incoming calls against the available or idle time, which is determined by dividing workload hours by staff hours.
Revenue Management - is the application of disciplined analytics that predict consumer behavior at the micro-market level and optimize product availability and price to maximize revenue growth.
