First Look at Virtual Reality Minecraft At Xbox Showcase

First look at virtual reality Minecraft at Xbox showcase Dave Lee North America technology reporter

Minecraft is already adored by millions of gamers across the globe. Now Microsoft has shown us what the real world is like in virtual reality.

Microsoft bought the block-building phenomenon in 2014 at $2.5bn (PS1.8bn), which was a massive purchase that left many fans of the game anxious about its future.

The US firm said that it would not alter its popular formula but instead invest in Minecraft.

The Xbox division showcased the virtual reality version of Minecraft at an event in San Francisco event.

Palmer Luckey, creator and designer of Oculus Rift VR headset said that it makes you feel like you're in Minecraft.

It's similar to many VR experiences. It's completely immersive. It's a great opportunity to experience the thrilling creation process on a VR screen.

For a game that's popular with children, there's one figure that could be a concern for parents that is $1,500.

This is the amount they'll need in order to purchase an Oculus Rift headset, as well as a PC powerful enough to power it.

That's surely too expensive, I suggested to Mr Luckey.

He replied, "It isn’t."

"I I mean, it's expensive compared to everything else in the world but if you look at it in comparison to a mobile phone or television, you're getting a lot more technology.

"It's not as simple as hardware and the cost is decreasing in the coming years."

It'll need to go down quickly in order to be accepted by the mass media in the near future.

I am expecting a small revival of the arcade games. It is a place where people can go to play video games of the highest quality that they cannot afford to buy for themselves.

Big titles

Oculus Minecraft was one of many games showcased at Xbox Spring Showcase. This gave journalists (and a few YouTube stars) the opportunity to play some of the upcoming blockbusters.

I lost an hour within the thrilling world of Quantum Break. It's a game in which you play Jack Joyce, an unwilling action hero who gains the ability to alter time after an experiment went badly.

It may sound like a similar game scenario, but the title's mechanics are what make it different.

Also, make sure to look into Tom Clancy's The Division -- set in a meticulously faithful-to-life Manhattan.

A number of the games included on the show were advertised as excellent to use on a PC using Microsoft's Windows 10 operating systems.

"If you look at the figures, PC gaming is the fastest growing segment of gaming out there," said head of Xbox Phil Spencer.

"It's only normal that we'd concentrate on gaming on Windows."

Virtual plans

Microsoft has decided not to create its own headset for virtual reality. However, it is still developing the Hololens-focused Hololens. Instead, it is working to make it compatible with Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

In the debate over price, Spencer stated that he believes that virtual reality will follow the same path set by high definition TVs. Spartan16 It's a costly item at first, but it becomes hard to resist once you've experienced it.

He said, "The early adopters of VR will be there to help propel the industry."

Given that Sony's PlayStation 4 will be getting its own VR headset, I asked if Microsoft could consider creating its own gear.

"I absolutely think it could be something that is in our roadmap," he said. He also stressed that Windows 10 was now fully compatible with VR titles, but he did not mention this.

'Not hacked'

New games aren't worth anything if gamers can't play them online. This has been a problem.

Insufficient reliability on Xbox Live - the service Xbox gamers utilize to play against each other over the internet has resulted in the stressing of thousands.

Disgruntled fans include rapper Snoop Dogg, who - in a video that was too vulgar to post here - begged Bill Gates to fix the problem or he'd move to PlayStation.

Mr Spencer apologized for the problems.

He added, "It's evidently always regretful."

"This outage was a concern. We learned from it. We knew the exact cause and it just took us some time than we would prefer."

He denied that the company was the victim of a cyberattack, saying that even though its network was under constant attack, it was not, as had been claimed, felled by an orchestrated effort to cut gamers off.

Snoop Dogg is at risk of losing his identity: "Snoop has been a long-time Xbox player and fan for many years.

"I am able to understand when people get upset. It's a sign that people care and are committed to the work we do as a game platform.
