Home favourite Thanasi Kokkinakis won the first ATP title of his career on Saturday after beating fellow big-server Arthur Rinderknech in three sets at the Adelaide International final.
The Australian won 6-7 (8/6), 7-6 (7/5), and 6-3, all in 38 minutes.
"I wouldn’t wish to win any other title... Kokkinakis stated that he's been playing on this court since he was nine years old.
In great form Kokkinakis defeated Marin Cilic, former US Open champion, in a three-set semifinal jittery-jangler Friday. This was an impressive beginning to what he hopes will be a breakout season.
In his first final in five years, Kokkinakis fought off the Frenchman's pyrotechnics , with the support of his fans from home.
In a first set, Little separated the big-servers. This was almost predetermined and was determined by tie break.
After a skillful play on the net that brought cheering fans to their feet, Kokkinakis had reached 6-5.
But the ace was unaffected by his decision to take the first set and his booming serve remained hard to break.
Kokkinakis also played his serve well and won the tie break with blistering groundstrokes.
His momentum carried into the third set, and he was able to capture the first break of service in the match to establish an advantage.
Kokkinakis once again attacked Rinderknech's serve during the ninth game to end his title drought, slamming to his knees in the midst of a roaring crowd.
He will face German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann in the opening round of the Australian Open.
