Minecraft is Building an Education for Students

Recently, we spoke about the Oregon Trail of our youth and the benefits of gamification, but Minecraft is going much further by taking games to the classroom. Kids across the globe have gone Minecraft crazy. The concept of a two-person business in a small French town has evolved into a global phenomenon that has sold over 200 million copies. Minecraft is distinct from other blockbuster games because of its blurry and cartoony graphics. The game is about mining and crafting. You first search for resources, and then utilize them to build other items. The first goal is to build a shelter to secure yourself during night time, which occurs every four hours. If you fail to succeed in this, then the spiders, zombies and skeletons will consume your brains. Your character will die. Parents, don't be worried there's not blood or gore in Minecraft monster-fighting. Although the description above sounds very educational, scientists have found that Minecraft can teach children how to react in real-life situations. The game is is called an "open-ended Sandbox" which means that there are no instructions and it can be confusing at first. Both children and adults are required to explore the game and try to unravel its secrets. There are sites like Minecraft Wiki designed to help children discover the game. My seven-year-old daughter was looking at YouTube videos that she found when she searched for Minecraft assistance. tece lana Children can also seek out help from other Minecraft players who are looking for the same things. In-game resources are extremely valuable. Other players could attack a character and take them down (remember there isn't blood) and steal all their possessions. To avoid conflict, players must learn how to protect their belongings from the other players. There is always the possibility that one of the builders could become angry and ruin the hours of hard work. In the end, Minecraft is a dog-eats-dog world. Although it may sound cruel, kids are captivated by the game and spend hours building their own town, historic monument, or whatever else they can think of. In Minecraft there are no limits and there is no limit to what your creativity can create. Through teamwork, social skills, security awareness, creativity, research, problem solving , and a lot of determination, it is easy to see that Minecraft can easily be adapted to real-world solutions to issues. This is precisely why many teachers have chosen Minecraft to use in their classrooms. Minecraftedu.com was created specifically for teachers and children who work in a classroom. Minecraftedu.com offers thousands of teacher licenses. This has enabled children to learn valuable life lessons in a fun and engaging environment. Teachers add lesson plans daily to the foundation in order to make it function as an ensemble or a group.

As the video clip shows that digital citizenship is becoming increasingly crucial as technology becomes more dependent on it. Children are being asked to learn about the ethics of online safety and bullying at a younger and younger age. Minecraft creates a platform that is engaging for children and helps children to embrace digital citizenship concepts in a controlled environment.

As a major advocate for STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) we encourage our young people to be exposed to technology at an early age and discover how far their creativity could lead them. Find out more about our STEAM activities by visiting an elementary school that has a bunch cool gadgets such as Raspberry Pi to discover what we can all learn.
