Children to Design a the next National Park In Minecraft

Children to design new national park in Minecraft

Schoolchildren in Adelaide, Australia, have been invited to create a national park in Minecraft that could later be constructed in real life.

Students aged from nine to 12 are being asked to design their own characters in the 3D world of blocks.

These results could be used to upgrade existing national parks in Adelaide.

The government has allocated nearly $10.4m Australian dollars (PS5.4m), for the redesigns.

It was keen to find a new method to engage young people in its processes.

"This contest is part of a project to engage the community asking people of all ages about what kind of facilities they would like to encourage them to spend more time in national parks," reads the Natural Resources, Adelaide website that announced the award.

"The State government has allocated $10.4 million for park projects. So some of the ideas you brainstorm in class could end up being implemented."

The only rule is that "whatever you create must be able to be created in the real world" the report added.

"The park features need to complement the natural environment by taking into consideration the animals and plants that live there."

Ideas could include trails for bushwalking, mountain biking or barbecues, horse riding and picnic areas - or something completely different." it suggested.

Redesigning slums

There is a trend to create ever more elaborate designs in Minecraft.

The Danish government has mapped the entire country in the game as part of an educational project.

Mojang the creators and developers of Minecraft joined forces with the UN in 2012 to help create cities for developing countries.

They designed public spaces and shared them with local groups. They could then design them by the participants. the spaces.

The project has generated new ideas for green space in Kiberia the largest slum in Nairobi and the tool was also used to design a brand new waterfront in Les Cayes, Haiti's third largest city.

The Adelaide competition ends on 12 June and the winner will be announced a month later.

Winners will be awarded a government-funded trip to the Belair National Park.
