Overview

Vanilla Minecraft can be quite enjoyable, but it can get stale. Mojang may bring new features to the game but you don't have to wait for them to add new features. This can help alleviate the boredom that your server experiences. Plugins are a great way to accomplish this.

Plugins are server-side pieces of software that can add features to a server without having to make any client side changes as you may require with mods. There are thousands of plugins accessible on the internet, so it is almost impossible to find what you need or want.

To install plugins, your server must be running Spigot or Paper. Stockalicious Both will accept plugins from the Bukkit and Spigot websites. If you're not sure what to do to update your server version you can check our guide on this here.

How to Install Plugins Through the Plugin List

Apex Hosting has a great selection of plugins from Spigot and Bukkit that can be integrated directly into your panel. This will be one of the most simple ways to install plugins on your Java server.

1. Log in to your Apex Hosting Panel and select the server you want to install the plugins on.

2. The left side of the panel will display the Plugin List.

3. You can choose to use Spigot or Bukkit as your source. The only difference could be the results you receive. Both sources of plugins should work on the server.

4. You can search by name or category for plugins. Click on the plugin you would like to install after you've discovered it.

5. Make sure that the compatible version is listed at the top of this page for your server's version. You must ensure that Paper 1.16.5 is compatible with Paper 1.16.

6. Once you've verified that the version you're using is compatible, you can select it from the Version dropdown menu. Then, click the Install button to the right. You can confirm the installation is completed by looking at your server console.

7. After the process is completed, restart your server to allow the plugin to load.

How to Install Plugins via FTP

Sometimes, the list of plugins might not contain what you need. You may need to search online for the plugin's direct Jar file download. There are a few well-known sources to download plugins like the Dev Bukkit site, the SpigotMC website, and sometimes directly from developers' sites or github pages. The most effective method to search for plugins online is to just enter the name or keyword.

1. Download the plugin JAR file from its official source online.

2. Head to the FTP File Access tab on your panel and login.

3. After you have logged in, locate and click on the folder for plugins.

4. Once you are inside the plugins folder click upload to the left, then drag in your jar file.

5. After the file has been transferred to 100%, you can return to your main panel page.

6. Now restart the server to allow the plugin to load.

Common Issues

Plugins not loading:

Sometimes, plugins won't load even after restarting the server. In game, run /plugins to see whether a plugin has been loaded. If it's green, it should be loaded. It might not be listed in the list, or it might not be red. Make sure the plugin is compatible to your server version. Also, go to the plugin page to make sure it does not have any dependencies. Sometimes, if you restart the server and watch the console output, it could tell you exactly what the error is or what plugin is missing to make it work.

Plugin List Failure:

If you are trying to download a plugin using the included Plugin List on your panel and it's giving you errors, such as it might be stating that the plugin is not downloading properly This could indicate an issue with the source website of the plugin. If this occurs it is recommended that you install the plugin onto the server following the FTP section of this guide.

No Plugins Folder:

If you're trying to manually install plugins on the server but cannot find the plugins folder, it is likely that your server does not accept plugins or you have missed restarting after changing versions to Spigot or Paper. Check the Jar File dropdown in your panel to verify that your server is compatible. Some compatible versions include Spigot, Paper and Magma.
