Minecraft is used by the UN as a tool to plan for third world communities

United Nations Habitat has partnered with Minecraft in an effort to improve neighbourhoods in third-world countries.
The three-year partnership is part an initiative dubbed "Block by Block" which aims to upgrade 300 public spaces by 2016.
Students will receive a special Minecraft version with virtual representations of communities that are already in existence. They can then use the game's tools and plan their own communities.
UN Habitat stated that the game could give feedback from the local populace to inform urban planners and decision makers about the best improvements that can be made for the community.
The pilot project was launched in Kibera, Nairobi.

In related news, the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft has sold over four million copies, 4J Studios has announced on Twitter.
"Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has passed 4 million sales! "Incredible number thank you to everyone!" reads the tweet.
