A Teenager is Arrested in Connection with a Mass School Bomb Hoax

A teenage boy believed to be at the heart of an Minecraft gamers' dispute was arrested following a mass bomb hoax closed hundreds of colleges and schools across the UK.



The 19-year-old was detained by Hertfordshire police after some 24,000 threatening emails were sent out to schools, warning of an impending bomb attack if cash wasn't handed over.

The emails appeared to have been sent by VeltPvP, a gaming network. VeltPvP, which is a Minecraft player against-player server, is the same kind of service that businesses use to sell their products to gamers.



Following a massive hoax bomb that shut down schools in hundreds across the UK, a teenager believed to be at the center of the Minecraft gamers' feud was detained by police from Hertfordshire. The 19-year old was arrested by Hertfordshire police after 24,000 emails were sent out to schools warning them of an imminent attack



The emails were designed to cause the domain to be suspended because of abuse. They they are believed to be sent by an organization that wanted to discredit VeltPvP.



The National Crime Agency (NCA) said there was 'no credible threat to the emails' that were received this week.

The statement read: 'We understand teachers' and parents' concerns but stress there was no credible threat to the school's emails.



"However we take the communication seriously. We cannot comment further since this is a live investigation.



The signs were put up on the outside of Cardinal Road School in Feltham in the aftermath of the bomb hoax emails



The dispute was based on the belief that rivals were involved in illegal activities to prevent each other from doing business.



When asked whether he regretted the impact the letters had on schoolchildren who were forced to evacuate one of the hoaxers responded, "It is terrible, it'sn't the nicest thing."



In blaming VeltPvP the hoaxer claimed VeltPvP was involved in a campaign of Direct Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks - which he claims were used to try and block other rival Minecraft servers.



Following the fake bomb email threat, parents were urged to bring their children home.



VeltPvP released a statement that stated that they were being hounded and hounded by cybercriminals.



"We apologize deeply for anyone who has been affected by this, but we just want to inform you that it is fake."



More than 400 schools and colleges across the country received the email that claimed that a bomb was planted and would be detonated in the event that money wasn't transferred.



Cardinal Road School, Feltham, West London was one of the schools to receive the fake email.



Police forces from London, Bristol, Liverpool and Bedfordshire were among those who investigated.



Some parents asked to be allowed to pick up their children from school amid concerns about the emails.



Six schools in Hertfordshire were also affected: Abbots Hill, Valley School, Stevenage, The Sele School, Duncombe School, Stanborough School, Watford, St Albans High School and Valley School.
