Setelah Piala Dunia di Qatar , FIFA merilis peringkat sepakbola dunia terbaru, yang mengejutkan adalah Argentina, juara Piala Dunia saat ini, bukan No.1, tetapi No.2.
Sebelumnya, Argentina menduduki peringkat ketiga, namun kali ini naik ke peringkat kedua setelah meraih juara. Adapun urutan pertama adalah Brazil yang paling banyak meraih gelar juara Piala Dunia sebanyak 5 kali juara yaitu juara Piala Dunia pada tahun 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 dan 2002.
Menurut aturan FIFA , jika Argentina memenangkan final Piala Dunia di Qatar dalam waktu 120 menit, poin yang didapat akan menjadikan Argentina No. 1 di dunia. Namun, Argentina memenangkan adu penalti, dan poinnya tidak banyak, akibatnya Argentina tidak bisa mengungguli Brasil untuk menempati posisi pertama dunia.
Prancis yang menjadi runner-up Piala Dunia ini juga naik dari peringkat 4 menjadi peringkat 3. Belgia yang semula menempati peringkat kedua tampil buruk di Piala Dunia dan turun ke urutan keempat. Inggris tetap di urutan ke-5, sedangkan Belanda naik ke urutan ke-6. Runner-up ketiga Kroasia langsung naik ke posisi ke-5 dan naik ke posisi ke-7. Italia jatuh ke peringkat 8, Portugal tetap di peringkat 9, dan Spanyol turun 3 peringkat ke peringkat 10.

Maroko, kuda hitam Piala Dunia ini, awalnya berada di peringkat 22, namun prestasi tahun ini naik menjadi peringkat 11. Australia juga naik dari peringkat 38 menjadi 27, dan penampilan impresif tim Jepang tahun ini juga naik 4 peringkat ke peringkat 20.
