How many Minecraft players do you know? Minecraft might just be the most popular game played in the world currently, and the latest numbers of players indicate that it's larger than almost every country in the world.



It's not surprising that Minecraft has achieved many milestones this year as it celebrates its 11th anniversary. As of May 2020, there were over 200 million copies sold of Minecraft, an increase of 24,000,000 copies compared to the previous year. Needless to say it's been a big year for Minecraft as it has seen the release of Minecraft Earth and the launch of Mojang's standalone action-RPG, Minecraft Dungeons.



The Minecraft open-world game that we love and adore has no intention of slowing down either, with a yearly increase of players and frequent updates such as the Minecraft Nether update and introduction of new blocks, biomes and mobs that keep Minecraft fresh, not that players seem to be running out of ideas. With all the impressive new creations by players with Minecraft, such as Minecraft Hogwarts and Minecraft house designs, how many people are playing Minecraft?





How many Minecraft players are there?

Mojang's studio head Helen Chiang says in a blog post, in which she looks back at the past year of Minecraft in which "126 million people are now playing Minecraft every month." This is an increase from the 112 million monthly active users in September of 2019, which was reported in an interview with Helen Chiang and Business Insider. "What we find is that it's a game players keep coming back to," says Chiang. "It might not always be the one that's at the top of the list, as there are many excellent games that continue to come out but it's one they love to return to."



Minecraft has reached 480 million users worldwide in 2019 due to both paid sales and registered accounts for the free to play version in China. Proxylist101 Analyst Daniel Ahmad noted that the Chinese version was released in 2017 and has since attracted nearly 300 million players. The paid version has sold 180 million copies across the globe. This combined sales will make Minecraft the third-largest country in the world, behind China and India.



Although there is no sign of Minecraft 2 coming soon, it's possible that the first game will continue as it is. If you're looking to extend the game, look into these Minecraft mods.
