This is my Story and I'm Keeping It

After being awake for more than 48 hours, everyone sank to sleep when our heads hit the pillow.

Except for me.

I was suffering from a jarring headache due to fatigue and my eyes were burning from having kept them open for so long. When I finally had the chance to lay down in silence my head began to throb and I was tempted to pull my eyes out.

However, melatonin was the win and I didn't woke up until 8:00 in the morning.

Two kids stayed at the same hotel as Grady and two other children stayed in the same hotel as me. After breakfast and Grady going off to work my kids and I decided to go exploring a small pocket of Sydney.

The Sydney Harbor is unique - some areas are characterized by jagged cliffs, others quiet with sandy beaches, and some boasting a modern and beautiful skyline.

Uncertain of where we were going, and not knowing how we would feel or how energetic we would be for our first day of exploring, we decided to start with small museums that explained the British discovery of Australia and its first use for prisoners.

History, Geography, Social Studies: Check.

After completing a set of clues to solve a riddle at the museum, which Micah was insistent to complete, we walked across the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Bagauc This iconic bridge is the largest arch made of steel and is comprised of only straight pieces of steel... even though the bridge is a huge arch.

And a side note: Micah is frustrated he can't recreate the bridge in Minecraft. It seems that architecture has a an element of math.

We crossed the Bridge and explored Luna Park. This was mainly for the chance to relax, drink cold drinks, and enjoy ice-cream by the water.

Australia was in its final days of summer and the beginning of autumn when we visited. It was a steady breeze but it was extremely warm with temperatures in the mid-80s.

We took the ferry from Luna Park, crossed the harbor and walked 3 blocks back to our hotel.

After seven hours of traveling, I mandated "quiet time" in the hotel: kids wrote in journals, played video games, and I closed my eyes. At 5:45 Grady entered the room and dropped his laptop and we set off to find dinner.

Even when it was only 8:15, we had finished for the day. It took some time to get used to the 15 hour difference in time.

After the first day, everyone had a one-word description of Sydney: wonderful, fun, easy to get around beautiful, exciting and friendly. We smiled knowing that we still had two weeks to explore the city.
