This recall will be used to change the labels on the device, including the instructions and their intended uses. Users are instructed to verify that the tube is placed according to the protocols of their establishment prior to applying it to provide nutrition.

Avanos Medical's recall notification declared that there were sixty-three injuries and 23 deaths due to the misplacement or removal of the nasogastric feed tube during use of the CORTRAK*2 Enteral Access System. Avanos Medical feeding tube There were a variety of adverse events that occurred, including respiratory failure and pneumothorax (collapsed lung tissues), perforation (a hole or opening within the esophagus's wall or bowel), pneumonia, and the pleural effusion (excess liquid in the space between your lungs and your chest cavity).
On the 21st of March 2022, Avanos Medical issued a field correction notice to its customers who had used the devices between January 2021 and January 2022. These instructions were included in the notification:
Verify the placement of nasogastric/nasoenteric in accordance to institutional policies
Attach the pertinent note of correction to the field in your operator's guide.
Avanos must acknowledge receipt of the email notice.
