Waaaay back in 2011, I started playing this game that is fascinating, Minecraft. It didn't take too long before I decided to build a model that looked like a giant Apple II Plus (see the link at the end of this article).
As the game progressed as the game progressed, additional blocks were added. But for the longest time, I couldn't play anything with my Apple II. In 2014, I decided to tackle the project again with a larger-scale Apple IIe. I built the entire computer and also and also an Apple Modem 1200 and a phone in Survival mode. For those who haven't tried the game, this is where you need to find the blocks by hand. I set the project aside for another three years and then earlier this year I re-started it, but decided to complete it using Creative mode in which you can give yourself all the blocks you need; it speeds up the process.
The result is the above video which features not only the modem, computer and telephone as well as an ImageWriter I printer (producing a Print Shop-style banner), a joystick, a DuoDisk drive and the Monitor II, with blocky lo-res-style graphics displayed. To complete the project, I rebuilt my stereo system I had in college in the 1970s.
Why did I do it? I'm not sure, other than that it was satisfying to finish the project I had started long ago, and make it better than the previous one I worked on back in the beginning of Minecraft. I may not be programming on the Apple II these days, but this game gave me the opportunity to think in a different way.
