There are many practical ways to make use of Hoppers. Hopper in Minecraft. You can move blocks from and into chests, design an automated disposal, and even automate a variety of forms of collection.

A hopper is one method to make processes in Minecraft automated. They can select an item from a set of usable blocks and place it in barrels, chests or other usable blocks.
You can do this by placing a hopper underneath the block you want and connecting it to a block that is usable. Players can verify that they are connected by crouching and placing their hopper in front of the block they want to use.
This configuration will allow you to pull out the contents of the chest.

You can direct your hopper's trail to a dispenser, and have the items in the hopper dispersed into blocks of lava, cactus, or both. Connect the containers to a dispenser and wire a redstone clock to the dispenser.
The dispenser will eventually feed any items that are placed in the chest. The dispenser will shoot the items into the cactus, and destroy the item.
You can make an easy redstone clock by connecting four repeaters together with redstone dust. You can easily shut off the power source and boost the circuit power.

#3. Making an Automatic Item Collector in Minecraft
Hoppers can be transformed into a Minecart to travel and collect items. This can be done with a hopper or a Minecart at a table for crafting.
If a Minecart with a Hopper is placed under a layer of blocks, it will pick up the items it travels under.

The minecart can pick up any items that are over the stone. To retrieve items that are dropped you can place hoppers along the track.
