WRUP: Giant Robots For The Win Edition

I knew prior to going to watch Pacific Rim that I was going to be a fan at some level. It promised to be dumb fun because I love giant robots, kaiju films and so I was excited. As it turned out, it was excellent fun with no gimmicks. This isn't an intellectual film but rather a film that is full of love letters to the genres that inspired it, full of homages without ever getting into the past.



You can skip on 3D, because it didn't use that to great effect, but if you're even slightly interested in the film do yourself a favor and see it. It's well worth every penny and more.

@Beau_Hindman: I'm a bit of an avid shooter now, far more than I was before. So I'll be spending time in PlanetSide 2, Defiance, and now Firefall which looks absolutely amazing. My wife is sporting a new gaming laptop, so we can destroy things together. It's hard. I'll also be taking on RuneScape's Bacon Quest. It's stunning however the bacon-jerky they sent was awful.



@nbrianna: I'm not sure where I'll be this weekend. Ultima Online will soon expire, my EVE Online Freebie has expired, and Guild Wars 2 has, according to reports, turned into a series involving jumping puzzles that have no exit. When World of Warcraft starts to look appealing again, I'm sure I'm mad. Save me Steam summer sale!



@PsykopigAU - I am definitely going to Guild Wars 2 this weekend. However due to the frequent shut downs of the oceanic servers I've thought about making an easy trip to Star Wars: The Old Republic. It has also brought back memories of the good times I had playing PVP on low ping servers and also how much I'm not playing the game anymore.



@Eliot_Lefebvre - It's the last weekend of closed testing for Final Fantasy XIV so I'll be taking care. I have Star Wars: The Old Republic to finish before the next patch comes out. I also have Star Wars: The Old Republic to finish, and a 3DS to play on. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem Awakening are better than mobile games have any right to be.



@irljasmine - Right now my gaming world revolves around Eorzea and my tiny archer. I'm enjoying the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn beta quite a bit so I'll be sucking up every last drop of beta goodness that I possibly can. When it's time to take an end to moogles and chocobos, I'll spend the time trying to determine how my town managed to get built on top of all the fossils in Animal Crossing. It's an issue.



@jefreahard Jefreahard: I'll be participating in NCAA Football 14. Yes, I I'm one of them. But, think of it this way. Georgia Tech will never win another national championship if it isn't playing on another console. Oh, and I discovered this amazing old racing sim known as GT Legends on Steam. Best $2.49 I've ever spent.



@MJ_Guthrie: I'm looking forward to taking the last of the guardian animals in The Secret World's anniversary celebration and I'll not leave until I get them! They're all mine! I need only two more (which unfortunately is equivalent to a lot of golem bosses). If I am really, really lucky, I might even be able to join Fusang for the final one. If I can complete my set before the weekend is over I'll go weave some songs with my Songweaver Aion. I'm likely to return to TSW for more golems.



@RichieProcopio: This coming weekend I'll be playing Guild Wars 2. This new system of recompense for achievements has really tamed my OCD tendencies. I now view the game as a long achievement meter that has to be filled. A hellfire helmet awaits my Norn at the finish line. He can take it off and relax in its warmth. Things got a little awkward, didn't they?



@Epykbeard I'll be playing a lot of Wurm Online and some PlanetSide 2 in order to mix the games. I'm also enjoying Spartacus Legends on the Xbox and I'm planning to play as much as possible. Of course the Steam summer sale could ruin all of these plans and I'll end playing something new that everyone else has already beat three months ago, like BioShock Infinite.
