Minecraft Says "No" To NFTs

Mojang Studios, the makers of the uber-popular Minecraft game, is adopting a gist from the classic U.S. anti-drugs playbook, but it appears "Just Say No" works better in blockchain-based money-making schemes than it ever did for the use of narcotics.

The studio owned by Microsoft wrote on its blog Wednesday that NFTs in Minecraft "are generally not something we would accept or support." The company said that it was revising its Minecraft Usage Guidelines to state that blockchain technology cannot be permitted to integrate in the Minecraft game client, and will not be used to create NFTs based on any in-game content, whether that's skins or objects, or even mods.



The developers of blockchain technology wrote that the perceptions of digital ownership are based on "scarcity, exclusion" and "doesn't align with Minecraft values for creative inclusion and playing with others."



It actually happened. Blockverse was an NFT project that was said to be designed for Minecraft was able to concoct an estimated $1.2million from investors who purchased Blockverse characters in NFT format on sites such as OpenSeas. In a 2018 interview, Helen Chiang, head of Minecraft studio, stated that Minecraft players were averagely 24 years old. Chiang declared that the game was specifically designed to be child-friendly. The ERSB rating for Minecraft players is 10-years-old and up.
