Effective ways to self-study Japanese
Don't worry if you're a new Japanese learner and have been wondering if you can really self-study Japanese, you're not alone. I thought it was absurd to believe that any man or woman could learn one of the world's hardest languages without the help of a teacher.

When I graduated from college, I decided to challenge myself with this tough goal, and I successfully achieved it (to some extent). A year after I fully self-studied Japanese for 1 year, I passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level N2, only to discover it wasn't THAT impressive as I originally thought. Let me first tell you exactly how I learned Japanese by myself and passed the JLPT N2 with a score of 97 / 180 (90 is the passing mark).

It is probably easier to remember hiragana and katakana charts than it is to memorize 2000 Kanji characters. During the first month of my 1-year journal, I decided to just temporarily skip learning Kanji because it just gave me headaches. Japanese people don't use hiragana as their writing system like Koreans do? There would be a lot less trouble for everyone if we did that. The Kanji used to annoy me, but I totally fell in love with it over time.

Probably you've heard of Heisig's book Remembering the Kanji. Those who want to learn the Kanji faster and more easily should get this book. Using your imagination, you can develop a story or image for each Kanji so that you won't forget them. Although this book is not guaranteed to work for everyone, it certainly stands out among hundreds of Chinese characters books on the market.

Blog For Pet Lover has the downside of not providing you with the on and kun readings for the characters. Since we can learn each character somewhere else, I believe that the author is trying to teach us the best way to remember them. Google the on and kun readings of each character if you're a serious learner.

Write as many sentences and short essays as you can to practice writing the Kanji. Until you can remember the word correctly, use it in multiple sentences repeatedly. Your sentences should also be typed to your computer and someone should correct your grammatical errors.

Audio, video, and pdf versions of thousands of lessons are available. It's unlikely that you'll find a site that offers more Japanese lessons than this one. Each lesson is divided into four levels: Absolute beginners, Beginners, Intermediates, and Advanceds. There are several seasons in each category, each with over 20 lessons. The website offers online learning or offline learning through the pdf and mp3 files.
