Just a few months after its big debut at this year's E3, Minecraft has finally appeared on the Android Market, much to the delight of cube fans and people who like to waste their time. With this new, Pocket Edition app, Mojang is hoping to faithfully recreate the Minecraft experience on mobile devices with a particular focus on the game's artistic side. Version Alpha 0.1 will allow players to explore worlds that are randomly generated, invite their friends to join their worlds, and save multi-player realms to their mobile phones. Users can also play with 36 different types of blocks with the ease of their touchscreens. For now the game will be available on Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play, though Mojang plans to make it available for other Android handsets "in the near future." You can grab it today for $6.99, or swerve over the break to get more details in the full press announcement.

You can select blocks with the touchscreen, or navigate through them using the square and circle buttons on your Xperia Play device. Multi-player support for the local wireless network is available in the first version. This allows you to create a world with friends and invite them to join. This release includes:
