A Minecraft modder has added some fresh gameplay issues for players to address in the form of climate change. Nick Porillo's GlobalWarming mod alters the atmosphere by adjusting specific actions, like smelting ore. As climate change becomes more common and temperatures rise, temperatures will also rise. "If the majority of players do not agree to play near-carbon-neutrally in the way they play and play, then the carbon score will increase during the game. If the damage is detrimental to the players, they'll begin to pay back the debt that they incurred," Porillo told Motherboard. "The idea is if the players put a little more effort into their efforts from the beginning to not release a ton, then they can entirely avoid the price to be paid later."
He is planning to add additional features, including a scorecard that lets you know who the least carbon-neutral players are, figuring your own carbon footprint and adding methane as a second greenhouse gas. This mod is compatible with Minecraft Server Java Edition. It can be downloaded from GitHub.
