How to find and use Copper In Minecraft

Minecraft Copper is a metal resource that was added in the 1.17 update, and you'll need to smelt it's ore form to make usable Copper ingots to make. Depending your Y-level, Copper ore is actually quite widespread and you'll easily spot the pieces of green and orange that poke out of the stony ore blocks. There are some things to be aware of Copper ore. It oxidizes and turns to a blueish-green color. You will need to hunt for Copper in order to create a Spyglass or Lightning Rod. How do I find Copper in Minecraft

To get Copper Ingots for Minecraft You must find Copper Ore. Copper Ore is created in the form of a Copper vein. This means that you will often find many Copper ore blocks grouped together. Bring Stone Pickaxes or a higher quality pickaxe along with you to avoid a snag, since Copper Ore extracted using a wood pickaxe or another tool will not drop anything.



Copper Ore can be found from Y-level 0 up to 96, however, it has the highest chance of spawning in the middle layers , around Y48. It is best to search at least a little lower than sea level (Y63). If the Copper ore spawns between layers J0 and J16, it's called Deepslate Copper Ore. This Copper Ore has a higher hardness than normal Copper Ore, and it takes longer to mine. It's rare and expensive so it's best to stick to the standard Copper Ore type. Copper ore is also found in large veins within Dripstone cave biomes.



How do I get copper ingots from Minecraft



Mining Copper Ore won't give you Raw Copper. You must smelt this raw material to make Minecraft Copper Ingots. This is a simple step which most Minecraft players are familiar with: just put the Raw Copper in a furnace and add some fuel (wood can be used). Then wait until your Copper Ingots are in good shape. Then you can begin making!



How do I use Copper in Minecraft



Now that you have Copper Ingots, it is time to begin making. Copper Ingots can be used to make the following items:



Copper block. Make use of nine Copper Ingots to create an even, solid copper block. Lightning Rod. To create a Lightning Rod, place three Copper Ingots over the other. Check out our separate guide to Minecraft lightning rods.

How to wax Copper in Minecraft



Like in real life, Minecraft copper changes its color because of the process of oxidation. You can see the different stages of Copper Oxidation in Minecraft in the above image. If you don't want your copper to change color you can apply wax to it (this will keep the current color, not reset it). Simply attach a honeycomb to the block of copper.



Alternately, you can make use of an axe on the Copper block to scrape it. This will reduce the amount of oxidation by one (weathered copper will be exposed copper). Finally, while you can't actually plan this, a lightning strike will completely remove the oxidation.
