Minecraft 1.20-everything we Know about the next Major Minecraft Update

Minecraft 1.20-everything we know about the upcoming major Minecraft update

Minecraft 1.20 does not have a name yet, but is focusing on "creativity and intrinsic motivation."

As we've all been waiting for, Minecraft 1.20 will be the next major Minecraft update coming in 2023. It doesn't have a title yet though. Recently, Mojang stated that it has learned from displaying features too quickly . This could lead to players being disappointed when things change or are moved into later versions. We haven't seen all of 1.20's features yet, so we don't have a clue what we can expect.

We are aware that Mojang said that update 1.20 will be focused on "self expression, creativity, and intrinsic motivation." This was the last thing I heard when I spoke to Agnes Larsson, Minecraft's game director, and Nir Vaknin who is the game's designer, when I interviewed them earlier this year in 2022. They don’t want Minecraft to feel clingy.

It's not a surprise that several of the new features we know about in 1.20 are focused on building new aesthetic blocks and the possibility of a practical bookshelf. The new camel mount, which can be found in the deserts, is also a reference to the adventure.

The feature list does feel a little short right now however, we are sure Mojang will be revealing more features in version 1.20 as we get closer to the release date. Here are all the information we have on the upcoming update:

When will the Minecraft 1.20 update become available?

Minecraft 1.20 will launch sometime in 2023, but Mojang has not given a specific date yet. Mojang explained that the features of the update are close to being completed which means it is likely that the new version will be released one year later than the previous one, sometime in 2023.

Even though the full update will not launch for a while yet but we'll be able to begin playing with Minecraft 1.20 features very soon. Mojang has stated that it will begin to release 1.20 snapshots and Minecraft Preview builds just a few days after the reveal stream on October 15.

What are the new blocks that are being added in Minecraft 1.20?

The new Minecraft 1.20 blocks we have seen so far are focused on personalizing your build and telling stories using new gadgets. There's also the practical bookcase that is chiseled and the bamboo wood type, and hanging signs.

Hanging signsthey are available in ceiling, wall and narrow hanging options.

Bamboo wood: a complete set of bamboo wood blocks including trapdoors, doors and planks.

Raft The bamboo version of a boat could be rode on an elongated raft.

Bamboo mosaic: A new decorative block type just for bamboo.

Chiseled bookshelf:A functional bookshelf that can accommodate up to six books on.

Redstone signal capability makes the chiseled bookshelf particularly intriguing. It will give off a redstone signal based on how many books it is currently holding and Mojang suggests could be the source of some very cool secret doors. The shelf does not have an inventory interface, Mojang says. It's likely that you'll place books on the shelf by clicking with a book in your hand or taking a book and using your reticle to point and clicking with an empty hand.

The new Minecraft 1.20 mobs include the camel and sniffer

Two new mobs have been added to Minecraft 1.20 so far The other mob is the

camel

Mojang has chosen to be the first mount for the desert and sniffer, which was a winner in the votes of the mobs in the community.

Camels are often seen wandering around desert villages walking or sitting and fluttering their tiny ears. Camels are a novel type of mount. They can hold two people. This means that you can take your companion along on a trek between bases without the need for two different mounts. Camels have an exclusive horizontal dash capability that allows them to cross ravines.

The sniffer is an extinct mob from the Overworld that you'll have to revive through finding their eggs. They are huge and turtle-shaped, with mossy backs and large yellow snouts. They have floppy pink ears as well as large ears. After hatching, sniffers dig up old seeds from the ground to plant.

Minecraft will be sporting seven new default character skins

You no longer have to choose between Steve or Alex for your default Minecraft avatar. Mojang introduces seven new default characters: Makena, Efe, Noor, Kai, Ari, Sunny, and Zuri. Mojang states that this is a part of its efforts to help players express themselves by providing a wide range of new default characters to play as.

It's true that Minecraft Bedrock players can still make use of the dressing rooms to create their own unique Minecraft character and Java players can download tons of free Minecraft skins created by other players, but the nod to new characters is nice.

Mojang claims that the new default characters for Minecraft will be available prior to update 1.20 in November or December 2022.

Is there a new biome added to Minecraft 1.20?

Unfortunately no, it isn't likely, Mojang said during a Q&A session with press regarding update 1.20. However, Mojang has made it clear that it hasn't announced the full list of features for the update as of yet, which suggests it could be putting off the biome-related surprise. It's best to trust Mojang at its word and don't make any promises at this point, but, well, anything is possible.

In the year 2019 Minecraft 1.15, Buzzy Bees was the final major Minecraft update that didn't contain any new biomes. The update put an attention on the bee mob and its associated items like honey nests and blocks. If version 1.20 also doesn't include a new biome, we could see an identical attention to other areas.
