Players can now report chat chat messages in multiplayer games using the new system, but the community is concerned about the implications.
A Mojang community manager has said that the company will not be reversing its decision to implement a controversial new player reporting feature, and demanded an end to harassment of Mojang employees.
Posting on Reddit MojangMeesh made clear that while the company appreciates feedback from players, it will not necessarily "change the design principles Mojang Studios adheres to-this includes the new reporting system". They also asked players who are upset to stop "following Mojang employees around here on Reddit" to pester them on unrelated threads. The post received close to 2000 downvotes as of writing.
Minecraft players have been arguing about the new player report system since it was announced just a month ago but it was finally implemented in yesterday's 1.19.1 update. It allows players on private and Mojang-hosted servers to report inappropriate messages in chat for review by Mojang investigators, which could result in suspensions and bans for players who violate Minecraft's guidelines for community members, even on servers hosted by self-hosted players. Some players are concerned that the system will result in bans for players who post messages taken out of context, and that it gives Microsoft too much power to control the contents of discussions on its platform.
Although some players might be acting out in a negative way about it, I don't believe their argument is without merit. It's hard to imagine a world where this system doesn't ban anyone because jokes between friends were wrongly interpreted. While there may be appeals, it's evident that there are numerous misconceptions about the way the system operates. There are people who complain about their chat being monitored by Microsoft or dreading the possibility that they'll be banned for slurs in any thread. None of these are possible according Mojang's FAQ on the reporting system.
Mojang is in a bit of a jam with this one. A thread from Stuart Duncan-who runs a Minecraft server for children with autism-demonstrates just the awful things Minecraft hosts on a regular basis. Duncan highlights studies and reports from the ADL, the BBC, and others that tell stories of predators and racists who play Minecraft in a way that is abominable. Offering tools to combat this behaviour seems important. While it's true that 'think of the child" and other scary stories are often used to justify repressive policies in real life and a tool that lets users report suspicious chat messages in Minecraft isn't exactly the thin end of a draconian wedge.
When you say "no one asked" for this, "the entire community hates this" or "no-one wants this" Please stop trying to be a spokesperson for everyone. "If you're worried about the possibility of exploits it's fine. You can too. I know it's not perfect. But real people can be saved by this.Always remember that.July 27 2022
In other Minecraft news, Mojang has announced that the game will not include NFTs since they are incompatible with the "values of creative inclusion". At least that move only was able to get enthusiastic support from the players however there's no confirmation yet as to what that AI they trained to play Minecraft thinks about it.

One of Josh's earliest memories is of playing Quake 2 on the family computer at a time when he was too young to be playing that and he's been utterly game-brained ever since. Since the time his writing has been published in Vice, Fanbyte, and the Financial Times. He'll play pretty much anything and has written too much about everything from visual novels to Assassin's Clead. His most fervent interests are CRPGs as well as immersive sims. He thinks that you're all too smug about Deus Ex.
