When the mobile-based Minecraft Earth was announced last year, it immediately attracted comparisons to Pokemon Go because of its use of virtual reality and activities that are based on location. However, it was quite different (as senior editor Jess Conditt will attest) because it didn't require players to go outside to participate in its mining and building games. YERY Mattel now provides Minecraft Earth an entirely new play dimension that Pokemon Go does not have: NFC-enabled figurines.

The Boost Mini figures will retail for $5 each. They will feature a variety of characters from the Minecraft franchise which includes Steve, Alex, creepers, ducks and a cow. Each figure is adorable on its own. If you put it in contact with an NFC-enabled gadget, special abilities will be available within Minecraft Earth for a specified period of. The timer will be displayed on the screen. To encourage you to collect all the minis (or take them away from your friends) you'll also get XP by registering the mini with Minecraft Earth.
The first batch of the spring season includes 20 minis that have 10 abilities. Mattel also offers a clip-on pouch that could be clipped to your belt to carry your Minecraft Earth game with you on the move.
Mattel introduced new $3.50 blind-box miniatures that are themed to vanilla Minecraft. They also have larger figures of 3.5 inches that are compatible with the upcoming Minecraft Dungeons. The Redstone Monstrosity which measures over six inches tall, is especially enjoyable because it's sized to match those toys. The 3.5-inch figurines will cost $10, with the monstrosity selling for $25 when it's released in the fall.
