Minecraft Hackers Post Hundreds of Login Details Online. Login Details Online

Microsoft was left with a red face after its Xbox One service was hacked by hackers over Christmas. Now it is facing a similar problem.

According to reports on a German website claim that a list of 1,800 Microsoft owned Minecraft's usernames and passwords have been published online.

A security expert warns that criminals may gain access to these information and could hack into accounts, alter settings, or even purchase virtual goods.

The hack was revealed by Heise Online, and many of the verified accounts (selection pictured) are believed to be belonging to German gamers. While it's not entirely clear how the hackers obtained the credentials, security analyst Graham Cluely stated that there are many possibilities. These include malware and phishing attacks as well as a security breach.

It is not known how the hackers gained access on the credentials, however security analyst Graham Cluely wrote on the Hot for Security blog: There are a variety of possibilities, from simple phishing attacksto keylogging malware that steals player's details when they log into the game, or even a security breach at Minecraft itself.

"Let's hope that this isn't our last time, as the game has more than 100 million registered users.

However a Microsoft spokesperson said to MailOnline: 'We can confirm that there was no Mojang.net service was compromised.

"Normal industrial procedures" were created to deal with situations such as this. They were used to reset passwords for a small number of affected accounts.

Minecraft was first created in 2009.

At the start of the game, a player is placed in a virtual infinite game world.'

While the original game was intended to be played on the PC, there are now mobile versions and Xbox 360.

Based on the huge number of registered users The hack is comparatively small.

However, as Mr. Cluely stated: 'If unauthorised users exploited the exposed email addresses and passwords, they would not be able to only access other players' gameworlds, but also download the full version of the game that is normally sold for EUR19.95 Euros ($26.95 or PS17.95).'

Furthermore, once a cybercriminal has access to a person's email address, they can use it hack other accounts, send spam, or spread malware.

Cluely added that there's no assurance that the hacker behind this list doesn't have more money.

Although the amount of information released is small in comparison to the game's 100,000,000 players however, Mr Cluely said that there's no assurance that the hacker that published the list of details didn't have more information in their back pocket'.

At the beginning of the game, the player is placed in a virtual infinite game world.' They then have the option of exploring different terrains, including caves, forests, and mountains.
