Turkey Minister to investigate Minecraft 'violence' News from Elsewhere... ... media reports from around the globe, discovered by BBC Monitoring

According to reports, the Turkish government is looking into allegations that Minecraft is violent enough.
The game is categorized as suitable for children seven and over in much of Europe and for children older than 10 in the United States. But the country's family and social policies minister, Aysenur Islam, has requested an investigation into claims that it promotes violence, the Haberturk website says. If the site is deemed to be too violent, the government may seek an entire ban, according to the website. A journalist informed Mrs. Islam that players get points for killing other characters, including women. Strongcraft.org She asked her ministry what they would do about it. The Pan European Game Information group, which assigns ratings to computer games, says Minecraft contains "non-realistic-looking violence towards characters which, although human, are not very detailed".
One journalist from an Turkish gaming magazine claims that the ministry's concerns are not based on fact. "I have never seen a kid grabbing the sword and attacking people due to Minecraft," Kaan Gezer writes on the Leadergamer website. "Stories like this cause the video game industry in Turkey to stall or even decline." Minecraft is extremely popular with gamers of all ages, registering its 100 millionth user in February 2014. Teachers at some schools in the UK have also played it.
