Hackers Attack Anti-abortion U.S. Government Agencies in Kentucky, Arkansas

In protest to Roe v Wade being overturned by the Supreme Court, a group of hackers known as SiegedSec are seeking US state agencies that have anti-abortion policies.



The first batch of data it has divulged includes eight gigabytes that were allegedly taken from state governments in Kentucky, which has outlawed abortion except in rare circumstances and Arkansas, which has banned it completely.



A post on the hacker group's Telegram channel seems to show documents that provide information on property transactions and contains personally identifiable information of residents of these states.



On June 23 on June 23, the Supreme Court upended almost 50 years of precedent when it overturned the historic Roe V. Wade decision which legalized abortion in America and sparked widespread protests as well as multiple trigger-law bans at the state level.

Telegram: "Like many, but we're also pro-choice," the hacking group said.



SiegedSec's statement says"Like many others, we are pro-choice and shouldn't be denied access to abortion.'



It continues: "As an added pressure to the US Government We have leaked a number of documents and files that we have retrieved from Kentucky's and Arkansas government servers.



"These documents have a great deal of employee information, including PII (personally identifiable Information) and many more."

The group stated that "the attacks will continue", and added that: "Our main targets are any prolife entities that are not government-owned, such as government servers of states that have anti-abortion laws. Keep protesting, keep yourself safe, f*** the government.'

SiegedSec also assured its supporters that despite its pro-abortion rights, the group will 'still do blackhat stuff,' referring to its more typical actions of targeting private sector companies.

According to the dark web security service DarkOwl, the hacker group was formed as a result of the ongoing Russian conflict in Ukraine.



DarkOwl reports that SiegedSec has affected more than 100 websites since its creation.



It has also accessed several thousand LinkedIn profiles.



DarkOwl stated that the group was a 'fairly small-scale operation with the potential to evolve into a cyber threat' before the new US state hacks.
