Xbox has teamed up with the preservation society National Trust (opens in new tab) and some British creatives to make an Minecraft model of Corfe Castle. This impressive, complex model was funded by Xbox UK in the National Trust's festival archaeology. It encourages people to make their own ruin with the help of foundations.
Grian, a YouTube video maker, made this first build. You can see his work in the video above as well as on YouTube. (opens in new tab) Based on historic photos and consulting an expert, and using Minecraft build knowledge with a bit of artistic license, Grian creates a build that focuses on the most interesting features of Corfe Castle, such as its historic octagonal tower and miniature palace, or "Gloriette." It's a medieval kingly version I believe, of the Victorian folly.
"Grian has done a fantastic job restoring Corfe Castle back to its former splendor. He not only created an accurate reproduction of the various styles within the castle grounds, but also combined it with his own creativity. Martin Papworth, an archaeologist of the National Trust, said that we can't wait to see more innovative designs by more young minds."
You can download Corfe's ruins yourself by checking out the Minecraft server corfe.ruinsreimagined.com. The ruin will also be available into a bundle for Minecraft: Education Edition for use in classrooms. You can find out more on Microsoft's website. (opens in new tab)
