Effective ways to self-study Japanese
New Japanese learners may ask themselves: is it possible to learn Japanese by myself?, but you're not alone. My first thought was that it was insane to think that anyone could learn one of the hardest languages in the world without real teachers.

It was only after graduating college that I decided to challenge myself with this challenging goal, and I did successfully achieve it (in some sense). In the end, I was not THAT proud of passing the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level N2 after a year devoted to self-studying. I'll be going into more detail about that later, but first let me tell you how I learned Japanese all by myself and passed the JLPT N2 with a score of 97 / 180 (the passing mark is 90).

I think remembering the hiragana and katakana charts is the easy part, but learning 2000 Kanji characters is the harder part. As Blog For Pet Lover of my 1-year journal, I decided to temporarily skip learning Kanji for a month since it just gave me headaches. Why don't Japanese people use hiragana only in their writing system like Koreans do? Everyone would benefit from that. Although I hated Kanji at first, I soon fell in love with it.

The famous book Remembering the Kanji by Heisig may be familiar to you. If you want to learn Kanji faster and more efficiently, this is the book for you. By creating a story or image for each Kanji, you become aware of them so that you don't forget them. Despite the fact that there are hundreds of books available that teach Chinese characters, there is no guarantee that this book will be effective for everyone or that you will become an expert after using it.

This book lacks the character's on and kun readings, which is a slight drawback. He knows that we can easily learn to read each character somewhere else, so he focuses on teaching us the best way to remember them. It isn't too difficult to search for the on and kun reading of each character if you are a serious learner.

Practice writing sentences and short essays to learn how to write Kanji. You should use the same word repeatedly until you become familiar with it. It is also a good idea to type your sentences to your computer and ask someone to correct your grammar mistakes.

In audio, video, and pdf formats, they have thousands of lessons. It's unlikely that you'll find a site that offers more Japanese lessons than this one. Their lessons can be divided into four main categories: Absolute beginner, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. There are several seasons in each category, each with over 20 lessons. On the website, you can learn online or download the pdf and mp3 files to learn offline.
