How to find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.19



To find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.19, you need to go below 15 Y. After this point the deeper you dig, the better your chances of finding Diamonds.



Minecraft 1.18 introduced a number of important changes to Minecraft's world generation. If you're playing Minecraft 1.18 or later, you can go down below Y=0 and then into negative figures. Below Y=0, you'll find all the usual ores including Diamonds embedded in Deepslate Blocks instead of the regular Stone blocks.

Diamond is generated at Y=15, and increases in frequency as you descend. To view the current Y-Level, press F3 and you will be visible on the coordinates displayed. The second number after "XYZ" is the current level of the bottom part of your body.



However in the event that the Diamond is set to be placed close to an open-air block during the world generation process, it stands an opportunity of not spawning. This makes it more difficult to locate diamonds in caves. Therefore, you'll have to work hard at digging tunnels through the deepslate in order to maximize the chances of finding diamonds.

So, in summary: to find diamonds quickly, head as far down as you can until you reach bedrock, then start strip-mining!



How to find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.17 and earlier



If you're still playing Minecraft 1.17 or earlier, then you can find Diamond Ore in every Overworld biome from Y-levels 1-15. They spawn most often at levels 5-12, so if you want to maximise your chances of finding Diamonds be sure to stay between these two levels.



Whatever version of Minecraft you're playing on, Diamonds will spawn in small veins of up to 9 blocks at a time. However, sometimes you'll find larger veins that are composed of multiple veins touching each other. Diamonds are rare , even when they're at the right level.



The best method to mine Diamonds in Minecraft



Diamond Ore can only be mined with an Iron Pickaxe or better. As of 1.18, Diamonds are far less common in open spaces such as caves, so to increase your chances of finding Diamonds in Minecraft you must strip-mine in straight lines in all directions.



The most efficient method to mine Diamonds in Minecraft 1.19 is to dig down to level 57 and create a long 2-block-tall tunnel in any direction. Then, you can begin to mine on either side in 2x1 tunnels, leaving a 2-block-wide gap between each new tunnel.



Once you are satisfied that you have extracted all Diamonds from the level, you can continue the process at level 53. If you go about digging this way at both levels -57 and 53, you'll be able to view all Diamonds that appear between levels 58 and 51. This allows you to get the most amount of Diamonds without running into blocks of Bedrock which could otherwise slow down strip mining progress.



If you're playing Minecraft 1.17 or earlier, you can follow the exact same method using levels 6 and 10.



While mining, it's a good idea to have an water Bucket in your bag, as pockets of lava are fairly common in these levels. Also, remember to bring plenty of torches to light your way and prevent mobs from spawning in your tunnels. You can also use Night Vision potions to lighten your path, however this will not prevent mobs in spawning.
