Jagex has released Old School RuneScape for Steam. It has cross-platform advancement and also an event to mark its eighth anniversary. It's brought me back in time to see all the news about it. The free-to-play fantasy MMORPG is an old version of RuneScape from 2007 that was relaunched as Old School RuneScape in 2013. It's been accessible to download and play online for ages however I don't believe I've ever thought about it since I was a tiny baby in school. Lumbridge! The Grand Exchange The Grand Exchange! Oh no I think I'm about to download it on Steam.



I can't have been older than 12 when I first created an account on RuneScape account, since I'm pretty sure that I had to lie about my age in order to register (you have to be 13 or older to play) (also please don't read this, RuneScape police). It was mostly the tutorial quests and the burning of the shrimp I caught in the river that are my primary memories. That was back when it was known as RuneScape.

You'll be able to login to an existing Old School RuneScape account when you play on Steam or, if you're new, you can login with your Steam account. Cross-progression and play are available, which means you can transfer your saved game to other platforms or play with your friends on other platforms.



Both the free-to-play and paid versions OS RuneScape are available on Steam. You can unlock more quests and content by paying. But, from what I've seen the free version has more than enough to play. It also includes achievements, trading cards, and all those Steam gadgets if you want to collect that sort of thing.



The game's debut on Valve's platform coincides its eighth anniversary, which is why it's hosting an in-game event during which players can earn a beautiful banana cape. According to a press release, the Old School players will be gathering in Lumbridge, the town that launched the game, to welcome new Steam players. This sounds wonderful. For as much as I'm not particularly into MMOs nowadays I miss how friendly the players are. I have fond memories of strangers wearing wild-looking armour helping me to get started when I was playing.
