Effective ways to self-study Japanese
The question: can one really self-study Japanese? doesn't have to be an uncommon concern for new Japanese learners. The idea that anyone could learn one of the hardest languages in the world without a teacher seemed crazy to me.

My tough goal, which I actually achieved (in some way), was something I decided to challenge myself with after college. A year after I fully self-studied Japanese for 1 year, I passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level N2, only to discover it wasn't THAT impressive as I originally thought. Afterwards, I'll explain how I learned Japanese alone and passed the JLPT N2 with a score of 97 / 180 (the passing score is 90).

I think learning 2000 Kanji characters is the harder part, not remembering the hiragana and katakana charts. I skipped learning the Kanji for a while during the first month of my 1-year journal because it gave me headaches. Why Blog For Pet Lover use hiragana only in their writing system like Koreans do? We'd all be saving a lot of time and effort that way. In the beginning, I hated Kanji, but later I discovered that it was my favorite.

You may have heard of Heisig's book Remembering the Kanji. For Japanese learners who are interested in saving time and effort, this is a must-have book. By creating a story or image for each Kanji, you learn how not to forget them. Even though there is no guarantee that this book will work for everyone or that you will become an expert in Kanji after using it, it is certainly the best of hundreds available for learning Chinese characters.

Despite being a good book, its biggest downside is that it does not provide on and kun readings for each character. Because we can easily learn each character somewhere else, the author focuses on teaching us the best way to remember the characters. A serious learner shouldn't have much trouble going online and finding the on and kun readings of each character.

Practicing writing as many sentences and short essays as you can will help you to remember how to write the Kanji. It may take you a few times to remember a word after using it in various sentences. In addition, type your sentences onto your computer and have someone proofread them for you.

Audio, video, and pdf formats are available for thousands of lessons. A site like this probably offers more Japanese lessons than any other. Each lesson is divided into four levels: Absolute beginners, Beginners, Intermediates, and Advanceds. There are several seasons in each category, each with over 20 lessons. The website offers you the option to learn online or you can download the pdf and mp3 files for offline learning.
