RF-EMF causes DNA damage

To study the effects of RF-EMF on male germ cell development, a specially-built waveguide device was developed to expose non-restrained mice to RF EME with a dose of 2.2 W/kg.

In a recent study, researchers found exposure to RF-EME causes the oxidation of DNA in the spermatozoa. Sperm DNA fragmentation was increased by 18% after a week of treatment, and by 23 percent after 5 weeks. Furthermore, DNA damage in mitochondria was observed by measuring the level of a biomarker, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OH-dG).

However it isn't yet considered to be a carcinogen. However, several studies have found that exposure to RF-EMF radiation can damage DNA health in range of cell lines. In one such study researchers exposed Vero cell lines to EMF that was 100Hz, for about 45 minutes. They measured DNA damage within 48 hours of exposure to determine if the exposure affected the integrity of DNA.

The effect of RF-EMF on tissue heating
Although the effects of RF EMF are usually thought to be thermal, a few studies have demonstrated that non-thermal effects are also observed. These factors could be responsible for certain of the unsolved findings in epidemiological studies on EMF hypersensitivity. It is therefore important to look at the non-thermal aspects when conducting systematic reviews.

Non-thermal effects from RF-EMF could occur on the cell's membrane. This is a field which has already been thoroughly studied. Particularly the electrochemical properties of cell membranes has been studied. Current understanding suggests that RF-EMF energy higher than 1 MHz is transmitted into the tissues through dielectric dissipation and ionic discharge. Previous theoretical analyses indicated that the energy transferred to the tissue could be as high as 200 kV/m.

The electrical properties of tissues are controlled by the composition and distribution of water molecules, ions, and other molecules within the body. This determines how absorbent EMR from RF is absorbed by different tissues. Tissues with higher conductivity tend to absorb more of the field and cause more of an effect. This is why the level of heating in tissues is not constant from outside to inside the body and is only noticeable in hot spots. Bone and fatty tissue is less susceptible to heating by RF than other tissues, because they have a low water content.

The intensity of penetration of the electromagnetic field is determined by the frequency and strength of field. Muscle tissue absorbs more field radiation than most tissues, and converts it into heat more efficiently. Usually, the depth of penetration that RFEMF has is measured in millimeters (mm). The higher the frequency, more shallow the penetration.

RF-EMF causes blood-brain barrier disruption

Researchers have found that RF-EMF can disrupt the blood-brain barrier, altering sleep patterns and neurotransmitter levels. Furthermore, the effects on the effects of EMF in brain activities are associated with neurodegenerative disorders. For instance, EMF from mobile phones could affect the electroencephalogram's activity and sleep patterns, as well as the activity of nitric oxide and xanthin oxide.

Moreover, the presence of a 99mTc-MIBI radiotracer in the brain has been linked to an increase in the permeability and permeability of the BBB.
