Step 1: Purchase a Minecraft: Education Edition license

There are two types of

Minecraft: Education Edition

licenses:

Academic

and

Commercial

. Academic licenses can be purchased by eligible institutions as well as their educators. Blogs All other organizatons can purchase commercial licenses. Make sure you know if you're eligible and which licensing option is the best for your organization:

Step 2: Install Minecraft: Education Edition

Once you have purchased or verified that you own an authorization then download

Minecraft: Education Edition

for your computer (either Windows 10 or macOS). Click on the label that says: "Get it on ..." with the name of your operating system. The installation will begin automatically.

Step 3: Setting Minecraft up for MakeCode

Here's how to set up and connected to MakeCode for the first time...





Install Minecraft

1. Start



If you are using Minecraft Education Edition, open Minecraft and log in.



2. Create a world



Press the Play button. Push the Create a New button in the Worlds dialog. You can select from a selection of default templates within the Create... window, but you can also design your own world using the Create New World option.



3. Cheats are now available!



You'll be able to see the settings for your new world. Everything will remain the same as it is with the exception of cheats. You need to turn Activate Cheats to the ON position to enable all of the coding features for MakeCode.



4. The world begins



Press Create and you'll be able to start playing in your new world.



5. Start in-game coding



Start in-game coding by entering " c". The Code Builder window will show up in the game with a list of coding apps to select from. Select Microsoft MakeCode.






The MakeCode home screen will appear in the Code Builder window. Choose "New Project" in the "My Projects" gallery to begin with a new project. You can also select the galleries to see an example of a tutorial or another.








Play around with your code

After you've completed your coding assignment After you have completed your project, return to Minecraft: Education Edition to run your code. Click

Resume Game

. Depending on what your code meant to do your code may run as a chat command or even start when a conditions in the game change. Follow the steps and attempt one of these tutorials.
