Minecraft player's 35-hour gaming marathon By Zoe Kleinman Technology reporter, BBC News
12 October 2015
A British man hopes that he can break the record of Minecraft's longest-running game.
Joe Kelly from Cheltenham played the game for 35 hours 35 minutes and 35 second and raised over $1800 to fund cancer research.
The current record, 24 hours 10 minutes was set by Martin Fornleitner in Austria in 2011.
Minecraft is about building structures with blocks, exploring new worlds and taking part in combat.
The book has sold more than 54 million copies around the world.
Last year, Microsoft bought Mojang, the studio behind it for $2.5bn (PS1.5bn).
Mr. Kelly is the owner of a film production company and also works as a voice actor is playing the game since buying a pre-development version in 2010. Typically, he plays for a few hours per week.
He told BBC that it was possible to stay awake and alert without caffeine, and it wasn't too difficult.
"There were no stimulants other than sugar and stubbornness."
Mr. Kelly who streamed the entire match on YouTube said that the stunt had taken its toll on his hands.
"My shoulders didn't ache and my back wasn't sore but the most difficult thing was my fingers.
"They are so painful just by holding a mouse and keyboard and being in clenched position for this long.
"Every tiny break I took I was flexing my fingers."
Mr Kelly and Sarah Vallance, his girlfriend are working on sending evidence of their feat to Guinness World Records.
He has no plans to rest from the game.
He said, "I introduced my girlfriend Minecraft, we often play together."
" It's something we love to do together. I'm not averse to gaming."
