Invitation to Minecraft Challenge by Stephen Getter and Sherry Jones (For GamesMOOC, December 7, 2022)

Hello GamesMOOC Participants!



Sherry Jones is the Rhetoric & Game Studies instructor for rgMOOC. This course is college-level Rhetoric and Composition that focuses on various theories of rhetoric in order to understand the meaning of digital video games. During rgMOOC 2 (September 2-10 November 10 13) @TheGameMole (Stephen Getter) along with me co-created and released an official Minecraft Challenge to participants in rgMOOC to construct an object of rhetoric in Minecraft. Are you up for the challenge?



In conjunction with the GamesMOOC We are putting out the same Minecraft Challenge to you! If you are interested in joining us in Minecraft Start reading the Minecraft Challenge Rules now in order to plan for the object you'd like to construct! On December 7 2013, 2013 (Saturday) me and @TheGameMole will construct nostalgic game objects together in Minecraft.



rgMOOC Minecraft Challenge! (Higher-Ed Edition)



You can make an object or character that is famous from a well-known board, card, or video game. The game has to be so popular that we can guess what game your character or object comes from.


You can work on your own or as part of a team.


You are not permitted to inform anyone outside of your group what game character or icon you're building prior to and during the Minecraft Challenge. The signs placed near your project may give clues without naming the project.


Your project must be at minimum 10 blocks wide and 10 blocks in height. However, it must not exceed 50 blocks in any direction.


At least one block needs to be laid on the ground in your project. The entire project can't be elevated above the ground.


You should construct your entire project using wool. There are many types of wool in your inventory. One exception to this rule is (see below).


Your character or iconic object must be designed with an aesthetic color scheme that is different from the game's (e.g. What would Kirby look like If he were blue? ).


If it makes sense for the game you pick, you must include at least one of the following items:


Table



Door



Barrel



Car, Truck, or Bus



Book



Chair



Animal



Clock

Moving Parts - These can be doors that open with buttons or mine carts that transport your audience through your project, or any other moving parts you can include in it. This is the only exception to the rule of using only wool blocks. Any blocks that are needed to move these parts can be used. The rest of your project must be made of wool.


Perspective Play - Try to alter your audience's perspective by making your project appear to be something from one angle and a completely different thing from a different direction (e.g. If you look from the West you will see Pacman however, from the North you see ghosts. But, all of your perspectives should show characters or iconic objects from the same game.
