Hercules membenci Hera karena Hera telah membunuh istri dan anaknya. Maka Hercules memutuskan untuk pergi ke Lerna untuk melawan Hydra. Hercules itu diberi tugas oleh Hera karena Hera benci dengan Hercules.
Kalau si Hercules tidak bisa menyelesaikannya,ia akan dibunuh. Jika Hercules berhasil,Hera akan mengakui kemampuannya.
Hydra adalah seekor ular yang mempunyai 9 kepala dan lidah yang tajam. Jika salah satu kepalanya dipotong,maka akan ada dua kepala baru yang tumbuh. Hercules tetap memotong kepala Hydra,tetapi sayangnya kepalanya muncul lagi. Dan tentunya kali ini lebih banyak kepala yang muncul. Hera membantu Hydra dengan cara mengirimkan kepiting untuk menjepit kaki Hercules. Kepiting tersebut mencapit kaki Hercules. Tetapi kepiting itu mati karena terinjak olehnya,dan salah satu capitnya putus. Hercules memenangkan pertarungan dengan membakar kepala Hydra yang sudah terpotong.
Hera yang merasa bersalah dengan nasib kepiting itu,memutuskan untuk mengirim jiwanya ke langit dan menjadikannya salah satu rasi bintang.
