For several years a dedicated community has been beavering away in the Minecraft universe, creating intricate cyberspace masterpieces.

Here are seven of the best:

Game of Thrones

Mapmakers WesterosCraft are on a mission to recreate the world created by George RR Martin in the Game of Thrones books and the TV series. The aim is to provide the opportunity to play roleplay within the fantasy world.

A working 16-bit computer

A Minecraft gamer who goes by the username ohmganesha created a fully functional 16-bit computer in just two weeks. The virtual machine comes with 32 bytes of RAM (random-access memory) and an ROM of 256 bytes (read-only memory).

This Cathedral

Patrix who was the architect of the edifice claimed that it took him just a few nights to build. He claimed that he'd never been inside a cathedral in person.

A hard drive that functions

Cody Littley's disk can store one kilobyte of information. This might seem tiny when compared to ordinary discs. But, when you consider that Mr. Littley, an enrolled Texas computer science PhD student, constructed it piece by piece.

An entire city

The artists behind the Aurora City Project admit it might never be finished, and the detail of their cityscapes offer an indication of the reason. Here are several pictures.

All of Denmark

To aid children's learning to read, the Danish government set out to map the entire country on Minecraft. However the project was later vandalized, with parts of the landscape blown up using virtual "dynamite".

A playable guitar

Disco Minecraft's creator, Disco can play 10 fundamental open chords with his cyber guitar. A demonstration can be seen here.
