How to control the Minecraft horse. These robust block-based horses are ideal for long distances and are easy to handle. First, you'll need to to find one. Minecraft horses appear differently based on your biome and Minecraft seed (opens in new tab), meaning you'll only see one in certain locations.

Minecraft horse spawn: where to find them



Minecraft horses are found in the Plains or Savannah biomes. They are in groups of between two and six. They are passive mobs and will not attack you. However you can fight them and kill them for minimal experience and a few leather (you monster).



There are 35 kinds of horse, but the differences are purely cosmetic. These types come from the fact that the seven different colors and five different marking types can all be mixed and matched, providing many options for the different types of horses.



How to make a saddle



Before you can begin training horses, you'll need a saddle. Without one, you won't have the ability to ride or transport tamed horses anywhere, which makes it almost unnecessary. Unfortunately though, you can't create them, so you'll have to find them by one of two methods.



The first is to find chests. They can be found in either normal dungeons or in the Nether Forttress. Saddles are not rare and are therefore worth looking for one and adding it to your inventory.



You can also catch a saddle while fishing, which seems odd. Perhaps, someone was able to throw it into the sea in a rage and you haven't taken it off the back of a drowned horse. To be honest, it's a bit depressing to think about.



Once you have found an animal that is in the correct biome, you can walk towards it and begin controlling him. To avoid from accidentally attacking it, you must put away all weapons.



Once you feel you are close enough, you'll be able to climb on the horse and then mount him. However, you might be bucked off multiple times. Depending on whether you are playing the Java Edition or Java Edition, you will have to right-click the horse or hover over the horse before pressing the "Mount" button. The saddle is not necessary for this part. However it will be required later on.



This may take a little time to repeat but it's not a particularly difficult job. Once you are onboard the horse, you won't be able to move the horse until you either open your inventory or equip the saddle. Once you've done this your horse will be ready to travel across the map.

You can also manage both horses by following these steps. You will need to feed each horse half of the food combinations above, while keeping them close to each other. The horses will soon be able see each other and will put red hearts on their heads. The hearts will soon vanish and a baby horse will replace them. If you're wondering, killing baby horses does not bring you any rewards.
