In the spring of this year, Minecraft developer Mojang and gaming tech company Nvidia announced that the game's sandbox was getting a new feature that would allow for a massive visual overhaul. The brand new Minecraft with RTX option was launched in a beta version back in April. Now, the official launch of Minecraft with RTX is taking place on Windows 10.
Mojang announced that ray tracing was officially launched on Minecraft for Windows 10. The technology is powered by NVIDIA and Minecraft's Render Dragon technology. "Players will get the chance to play Minecraft in a different way (sorry), with brightened blocks and emissive pixels. Water reflections cast shadows, dazzling global illumination, and accurately cast shadows. Why do I have to explain it using fancy words when you can watch an instructional video that has beautiful images?"
The studio has released a brand-new footage reel that shows off the block builder as well as its stunning new ray traced visuals. The video is available below. The reel includes before-and after shots of various RTX-enabled environments. It shows how the feature can change the entire game's visuals.
Mojang adds that for the new feature to be working in your game on Windows 10, you'll need to have a GPU that is capable of ray tracing, for example a "GeForce RTX 2060 or higher". Players who get Minecraft with RTX up and running will "by default, everything is enhanced by a specially-designed physically-based rendering texture pack, which interacts with the effects of ray traced to enhance the experience", the dev says.
You can find Minecraft Ray Traced Worlds at this link. My cms Go to the Minecraft marketplace to purchase some to add to your game. The update also contains two new worlds for free: Colosseum RTX which is now available and Dungeon Dash RTX which will be "coming shortly".
If you're keen to try creating ray traced worlds yourself, go to Nvidia's site here to find a starter pack and a guide to help you get started. Plus, you can learn more about the update in depth here if you'd like to know more about how it works and check out the FAQs.
