Minecraft is such a popular cultural phenomenon that it was slated to have its own three-day event in September with interactive exhibits, co-op and competitive gameplay, live entertainment, panels, and merch. Tickets for the first ever Minecraft Festival in Orlando were scheduled to be available this week. ReedPop is also the company that organizes New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con - announced that the event has been postponed by a whole year because of the coronavirus outbreak. While the event was months away and the epidemic could be cured in the near future, the organizers, producers and exhibitors have hit a wall when it comes to arranging the event and ensuring an enjoyable experience.
Minecraft Live will continue to be available for players. Minecraft servers The live stream will continue as planned, and will showcase the latest Minecraft news, features and behind-the-scenes looks at the upcoming projects.
With many events and conventions being canceled or postponed due to coronavirus-related issues, this announcement isn't a huge surprise. It's a bit odd that ReedPop and Mojang Minecraft, the developers of Minecraft, announced the convention just a week ago when the COVID-19 virus was well-known. It was a smart decision to cancel the event prior to when tickets went on-sale and before people had made arrangements for travel. This has saved a lot of hassles.
