Mojang is putting its blocky foot down with regard to brands and Minecraft. In an open letter to the community on its website, Owen Hill, the company's director of creative communications set out new guidelines specifically directed at ad agencies, companies and other non-gamer organizations that want to profit from Minecraft's vast user base.
To give you an idea of how big this base is, Markus "Notch", Persson who was the creator of the PC version, disclosed in 2014 that it had more than 100 million registered users. It's understandable that having a user base that large could be a lure for brands that want to promote their completely unrelated products to the community. The new guidelines for building promotion stipulate that it's not allowed to construct maps or servers to promote non-related products in playable forms. What is this? 35eng It's time to put an end to awkward promotions like the giant, working cellphone CaptainSparklez created on behalf of Verizon or Disney creating the creation of a map of Tomorrowland to promote its film with the same name. Mojang allows you to make these decisions on your own schedule and budget if you're a huge fan.
