Minecraft Says it doesn't Want anything to have to do with Blockchain, NFTs, or NFTs.

While certain industries are figuring out their thoughts regarding NFTs, the video game community is making it clear: NFTs stand for "No F'n Thanks" in their industry.



The most recent company to stand against non-fungible tokens: Mojang Studios, the developer of the hugely loved video game Minecraft.

In a statement released today on the official Minecraft website, which is titled "Minecraft and NFTs," the company clarified that it would not permit any form of blockchain or NFT integration with its game.



Mojang Studios and Minecraft laid out a few reasons for being against NFTs. They also stated that fake shortage plays an important role in the process. NFTs, also referred to as non-fungible tokens or digital assets, are digital assets that are stored on blockchain. A unique token is minted and then linked to the media file to claim ownership of that piece which has turned NFTs into an investment option for speculation.



The statement clarifies that Minecraft is not opposed to revenue-generating, and uses the example of users paying for access to a Minecraft server as an approved use case. However, since NFTs will alter the game's dynamics and give players with monetary advantages in games the game, the Minecraft developer is opposed to the technology.



"To ensure that Minecraft players have an enjoyable and safe experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including skins, worlds, items, or other mods," declares the statement.



The developer also raised concerns about the credibility of third-parties who mint Minecraft-related NFTs, and their tendency to drop projects and to fraudulently inflate prices on NFT aftermarkets.



Molly White, the Web3 is going Great website, has succinctly stated that "No blockchain is necessary for the game of block" The website monitors the many scams, frauds, and drama going on in the Web3 world that includes cryptocurrencies as well as NFT projects.



As White mentions, the value of existing (and unauthorized) Minecraft NFT projects tanked due to the news of Mojang Studios' statement. NFT Worlds, also associated with a token, saw both the token's value and its NFT floor prices plummet by more than 70 percent.



Minecraft's Mojang Studios is far from the first video game company to operate completely free of NFTs. Gamers have made it clear that they hate the idea of buying NFTs in addition to the video games they already purchase. And their anti-NFT opinions have forced the industry to follow. Sony just unveiled Playstation Stars, a loyalty program that rewards players with digital collectibles. These digital collectibles aren't NFTs, as the company said.



"It's definitely not NFTs. Absolutely not. They cannot be sold or traded. It is not using any Blockchain technology and certainly not NFTs." Grace Chen, Sony's vice president of network advertising and loyalty told The Washington Post.



Mojang Studios did end its statement by stating that they will monitor how blockchain technology evolves to be used in future scenarios, leaving the door somewhat open, based on presently non-existent possibilities. However, gamers who hate NFTs are likely to gain another victory at least for the near future.
