From time to time an author occurs that demands we take notification; one that avails just the best meter, tempo, and rhythm; one that can engulf us in a story and keep us glued throughout 200 pages; one that offers a design sure to be replicated by his aspiring peers, both of his generation and generations to come.

Nelson Pahl is simply that author.

Bee Balms & Burgundy is a lovely story of latent lifelong love and the mission to dominate all that stands in its way. Nick May is an effective thirty-two-year-old entrepreneur living in Vancouver. He breaks off a dynamite, suspecting eleven-month live-in relationship right before he takes a trip house to St. Paul to see his widowed mother. The relationship leaves him cynical about love, to state the least. As Soon As in St. Paul, he discovers neighbor and long-lasting friend Mia Lawson, 30, has a couple tricks she's been dying to show him. One, unbeknownst to Nick, is that she's now a post-mastectomy breast cancer survivor, still wishing to dominate her illness. The 2nd secret levels Nick much more.

Pahl not just delves into the oft-taboo topic of breast cancer with literary vigor, but he likewise savor it, astutely capturing the female emotions attached to such an awful experience. The chemistry between his two main characters borders on the divine, as we ride along upon a always lovely but often heartbreaking chariot through Nicky and Mia's ethereal and sensual yet attempting world.

While Indie Nation Magazine costs the book as "... the best romance you'll read this year," I ask to differ, a little; I'll argue that it may be the very best love story you ever checked out. Bee Balms courageously delves into a subject today's "socially mindful" authors will not go near, and it deals with the topic with grace, dignity, depth, and, yes, even endearing sensuality.

Pahl is a fantastic example of why a few of America's finest authors now demand composing for independent presses: A major publishing home would just shackle his abundant and witty composing design and subdue his "outside-the-box" storytelling.

Yet, Pahl's uncommon and rigorous literary discipline-- along with his hand for sensuous descriptive writing and well-crafted discussion-- make him one of the best authors in today's fiction scene, indie lit or mainstream. His fluid and concise prose grip the reader from the beginning, and then move him or her through the story with liberating ease and maximum intrigue. Through his articulate and warm first-person story, we see, feel, hear, smell, and taste everything; we live inside his fictional world; we are the characters.

Nelson Pahl's writing design solitarily restores my faith in today's literature. Think About Bee Balms & Burgundy an essential addition to any A-list brochure.
