Avanos Medical is recalling Cortrak*2 Entry Access System. The FDA declares that patients have been injured and killed by nasogastric or the nasoenteric tube being misplaced. Cortrak 2 eternal access system The recall currently comprises 629 devices which were sold across the United States.

Patients may experience damage to their vocal chords or trachea, if the tube is placed in a wrong way. Cortrak 2 eternal access system Avanos Medical's recall notice states that as of 2015, there have been 60 patient deaths and 23 injuries due to incorrect placement of nasogastric feed tubes using the CORTRAK*2 enteral access system. The lungs fail, there is pneumothorax (collapsed lungs) perforation (a hole in one's esophagus or the bowel wall), pneumonia, and excess fluid in the lung and chest cavity (the chest cavity as well as the lungs) have all been among the incidents.
Avanos Medical has presented a plan to offer users updated labels, to verify the proper positioning of Nasogastric (and nasoenteric) tubes prior to using them.
Avanos was the second warning issued by the FDA in 2022 regarding tube feeding through the stomach. The FDA sent a warning to healthcare professionals and parents regarding the danger of strangulation when feeding tubes are being used by children. Two cases of strangulation in children were reported in 2021. due to a tubing device that was wrapped around the patient's neck.
