Nick Pope Explains Madness after his Name Trended Worldwide

Nick Pope, Newcastle goalkeeper has spoken out about the madness that Toon fans created after they hijacked an internet poll that ranked England man number one on Twitter.



Toon Polls, a Newcastle fan account, has answered to a Burger King online poll asking for opinions on gherkins as well as tomatoes.



The account humorously responded to the tweet "Nick Pope" and set off a viral trend that saw Easyjet, McDonalds and Amazon all tweet the name of the Magpie's summer ad.



In an interview with Sky Sports, the 30-year-old explained how he found out about the incident and how his phone went up with notifications.

"It was a weird situation to be in. I looked at my phone and was forced to blink a couple of times before grabbing myself.' The stopper said. Magpies stopper.



"I thought"What's going on? What's wrong? My phone didn't stop vibrating. I am not used to it, and not many people are.



"A couple of text messages said: What is going on? Which is a bit of a worry. I don't know the number of messages were sent, but it was always. It was something I'm not used to and it was funny when I realized what was going on. Then the boys started using the mickey.



Pope replied when Pope was asked who on his team caused him the most trouble over his new fame. He said that it was the team effort from the changing rooms that caused the humiliation.



Newcastle fans kicked off the madness by responding to the Burger King poll with Nick Pope.



Pope joined the celebration by tweeting his name which was followed by a trending hashtag all over the world.



"They were able to spread the word in such a way that there were many across the globe. Every corner I turned there was another. If it was one of the other boys, I would do the same.'



Pope's name was among the top ten popular topic in the UK, and number 10 globally. McDonalds offered a free breakfast to Toon Polls if the goalie could keep a clean slate against Brighton the next day. This was something he did after the draw that Newcastle had to endure at The Amex Stadium.



The poll was a hit However, he wasn't the only one. Arizona based UFO expert Nick Pope was also the beneficiary of the buzz created by the the tweets and it was not the first time that the namesake's paths have crossed, as the Newcastle Nick Pope explained.



Pope's clean sheet against Brighton earned the fan account a free breakfast from McDonalds



'We had a bit of tension a while back when something happened. I believe he was being harassed by fans of opposing football so I had to tell people it wasn't me. You never think that one day I might need to know more on UFOs and at least I have contact.'



Pope has settled in at St James' Park in a snap and has put together an impressive string of performances in Newcastle's first three games.



There are calls for the Toon number 1 to be England's number one choice goalie. However, he faces competition from Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, and Dean Henderson.
