Avanos Medical pulled Cortrak*2 EAS off service following reports of injuries and deaths caused by tube misplacements.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has identified the recall of Avanos Medical's Cortrak* 2 Enteral Access System (EAS) as Class I recall.
A Class I remember is considered to be the most serious of all three classes.
Avanos Medical has recalled Cortrak*2 EAS following reports of injuries or deaths from nasogastric tube misplacements.

But, the incorrect positioning of the nasogastric or nasoenteric, tubes can result in severe injuries or even death.
The company is recalling 629 devices, which were sold in the US between 1 April 2016 until 1 January 2022.
The company recall communication stated that 60 patients were injured and 23 were killed due to the wrong placement of nasogastric tubes when using Cortrak* 2 EAS.
In the wake of the recall, Avanos Medical will update the device's labelling. Cortrak 2 eternal access system This will include updating the instructions and intended applications for Cortrak* 2 EAS.
