Avanos Medical Recalls The Cortrak*2 Enteral Access System
Avanos Medical (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) has announced it will recall Cortrak*2's Enteral access system. The recall was initiated in response to injuries sustained by patients and death from misplaced nasoenteric/nasogastric tubes. The recall currently comprises 629 devices distributed across the United States.

Cortrak 2 eternal access system Avanos has promoted its Cortrak*2 Enteral Access System due to its screen-based visualization of a patient's stomach or small bowel, to aid in the correct placement of a medical feeding tube. If a tube is placed in a way that is not correct the patient could suffer damage to their vocal cords, lungs, or trachea. Avanos Medical has reported that there have already been sixty-three injuries and 23 deaths due to incorrect placement of the nasogastric feeding tubes with the CORTRAK*2 Ental Access System. Injuries have included respiratory failure and pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and perforation (a hole in the lung's wall, esophagus, or the bowel) as well as pneumonia and pleural effusion (excess fluid in the lungs and chest cavity).

Avanos was the second caution issued by the FDA in 2022 about enteral nutrition tubes.
